Emre Can should stay in Liverpool defence says Carragher [divider]

Former Liverpool defender and football pundit Jamie Carragher believes that Emre Can should stay in defence until the end of the season following the game against Swansea.

Can signed for Liverpool on a £9.75 million move from Bayer Leverkusen as a central midfielder in the summer but was later converted to a defender under Reds head coach Brendan Rodgers.

“He has looked better at the back, long term who knows where he will be but when you are playing this well in a position you have to forget that he is a midfield player and leave him there,” Carragher said speaking on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.

Carragher underlined that Can has played so well in defence that it would be unwise to move him into midfield at this stage in the season.

“You don’t want to put him in midfield leave him there. he has looked better coming out the back,” he added.

Can has started the Reds last 11 games in the back-three and has featured in the last 12 Premier League games.

The 21-year-old started in the 1-0 victory over Swansea in the Premier League.

Liverpool are now undefeated in their last 12 league games and just two points behind fourth placed Manchester United.
