Emre Can wants a midfield role for Liverpool this season

Liverpool team news Emre Can

Emre Can has stated that he would prefer to play in Liverpool’s midfield this season.

The 21-year-old spent last season playing in a three-back and at right back despite being signed as a midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen.

However, Can went onto say that his priority is to be included in Brendan Rodgers starting eleven and will be happy to play in any position.

“The most important thing is to feature in games for Liverpool – that’s my number one intention,” Emre Can told Liverpool’s official website.

“A midfield role is preferable, but of course it is the manager who decides who plays where. We’ll see where he chooses to play me this season.”

Can put on an impressive display playing in midfield for the Germany U-21 side in the 2015 U-21 European Championships.

The Germany U-21 international is expected to move into midfield next season following the Red’s signing of Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton.

Can recently revealed that he has spoken with Rodgers about his desire to play in midfield and that the Reds boss also wants to see him play in the teams centre.

“Of course, we talked about this. The manager has said he sees me as a midfielder, and that’s where I want to play in the near future,” Can told the Anfield Wrap.

Can made a total of 27 appearances for the Premier League outfit this season and also featured in the FA Cup and Europa League.
