Emre Can will not be Liverpool’s new captain following Steven Gerrard’s exit to LA Galaxy.

Jordan Henderson is set to inherit the armband from Steven Gerrard and will now make the step up from vice-captain for the coming season.

Veteran defender Kolo Toure has tipped Emre Can to be Liverpool captain ahead of Jordan Henderson.

The Ivorian international has been impressed by the Can’s progress since joining the Reds last summer and stated that Emre Can will be “a king” at Anfield.

“He’s a leader, when you’re on the pitch, you can see that by the way he plays. He is really confident and he talks on the pitch as well,” Toure was quoted as saying in the Mirror.

“Right now, Jordan Henderson is very good, but there’s’ no doubt this boy is going to be a king here. He is a top player, who can make a difference in games”

The Germany U-21 international is expected to move into midfield next season following the Red’s signing of Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton.

The Liverpool star is currently on holiday in Bodrum (Turkey) and is expected to return to Liverpool shortly ahead of pre-season training.

Can made a total of 27 appearances for the Premier League outfit this season and also featured in the FA Cup and Europa League.
