Europa League Preview: Feyenoord v Man Utd – Jose Mourinho to look to Rashford for answers

Manchester United are also coming off the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat against arch rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho has made a number of changes going into the Europa League opener against Feyenoord.

Wayne Rooney has been left out of the 20-man squad for Thursday’s Europa League tie in Rotterdam and he is expected to turn to Marcus Rashford upfront.

United will also be without Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitarian – who could end up struggling to get back in the team following his display against City.

The Red Devils will also be without Phil Jones who also absent after suffering lateral knee ligament damage.

Mourinho made it clear in his pre-match presser that Marcos Rojo will start in defence in place of England international Luke Shaw. The Portuguese manager is expected to make a few more rotations with Michael Carrick, Matteo Darmian, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Memphis Depay set to feature.

Feyenoord will have former Liverpool star available and Turkish youth international Bilal Basacikoglu who has one assist this season could feature.

The Dutch side do not have a great record against English opposition having won just one of their last seven meetings with Premier League opposition.

Feyenoord last faced United 19 years ago in the Champions League and the Red Devils won both games.

United will have a weakened team on paper but the players in will be desperate to prove themselves following the ‘first-team’ failing to impress against City.

Manchester United’s Predicted Starting Lineup (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Jones, Rojo; Carrick, Herrera; Martial, Fellaini, Depay; Rashford

Feyenoord’s Predicted Starting Lineup (4-3-3): Jones; Karsdorp, Kongolo, Botteghin, Woudenberg; Vilhena, Kuyt, Ahmedi; Toornstra, Jorgensen, Berghius

Prediction: Manchester United Win
