The former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is expected to return to Fenerbahce’s match day squad this weekend.

Fenerbahce take on Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Super League this weekend. Van Persie missed his sides mid-week clash in the Europa League due to an injury.

The Netherlands international has found himself on the bench in recent weeks due to the impressive form of the Brazilian striker Fernandao.

Fenerbahce qualified from their group in the Europa League following a 1-1 draw with Celtic on Thursday evening. Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray are will be the two representatives from the Turkish Super League in the Europa League this season.

Van Persie has one assist and five goals in 13 Turkish Super League appearances for Fenerbahce this season.

Fenerbahce are currently in second place in the league with 31 points in 14 games, one point behind leaders Besiktas. The Istanbul giants can move into pole position this weekend if Besiktas drop points against their rivals Galatasaray.
