Formula 1 star Fernando Alonso is currently in Azerbaijan but took a break from race driving to talk football.

Azerbaijan is a Turkish speaking country with close cultural, ethnic, historical and political ties with Turkey so it was no surprise that Arda Turan was on the agenda.

Alonso spoke to reporters about Turan and revealed that he would like to see Barcelona winger at Real Madrid.

The Real fan stated that he is a fan of Turan but that the bearded winger should be in Madrid.

Alonso was quoted by NTV as saying: “I know Arda from Atletico Madrid. He’s a great player and doing well at Barcelona but I’m a Real Madrid fan and he has a beard like me so he should really be in Madrid.”

Turan does of course have history in Madrid but not at Real. The Turkish international joined Atletico Madrid from Galatasaray in 2012 and won ever domestic title and European trophy other than the Champions League during his time in the Spanish capitol.

The 29-year-old winger joined Barcelona from Atleti over the summer transfer window on a five-year deal and has three assists as well as one goal to his name.
