Fenerbahce defender to play first Champions League game since leaving Liverpool

Martin Skrtel joined Fenerbahce on a three-year deal from Liverpool over the summer but despite only being at the club for a few weeks he is expected to lead the defence against Monaco in the Champions League 3. Round qualifier tonight.

The experienced midfielder made 21 appearances in the Champions League for Liverpool – including one qualifier.

Skrtel will be joined by Simon Kjaer at centre-back, the Denmark international is into his second season at the club while summer signings Roman Neustadter and Gregory van der Wiel are expected to join up as part of the back-four.

Fenerbahce would be fielding a back-four that has never actually played together in a competitive game mid-way through pre-season in a key Champions League clash if Vitor Pereira does decides to use his new signings tonight.
