Fenerbahce part ways with five players

Fenerbahçe have released a statement confirming that the have confirmeed ways with five players.

The statement read: “Fenerbahçe sports club will not extend the contracts of Selçuk Şahin, Bekir İrtegün, Egemen Korkmaz, Mert Günok and Pierre Webo. We would like to thank all five players for their service to the club and wish them all the best in the future.”

Selçuk Şahin will leave Fenerbahçe after spending 15 years at the club during which time he won four league titles and the Turkish Cup twice.

Mert Günok rose through the Yellow Canaries youth system and was seen as a long term future for Volkan Demirel until Giuliano Terraneo was appointed sporting director a fortnight ago.

Bekir İrtegün joined the Istanbul giants from Gaziantepspor in 2009 and went onto the win the Süper Lig twice before eventually falling out of favour last season with former manager Ismail Kartal.

Season Süper Lig traveller Egemen Korkmaz had already played for Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor before joining Fenerbahçe in 2012 – there are rumours he could join bitter rivals Galatasaray.

Cameroon international veteran Pierre Webo joined Fenerbahçe in 2013 and won the league title once with the Canaries.
