Fenerbahce have been linked with a €15m offer for Manchester United managerial target Manchester United.

The bid may come as a surprise but Fenerbahce have a long history with Mourinho in fact they were the first foreign club to have made an offer for the Portuguese manager back in 2003.

Speaking at a symposium in Istanbul in 2012 Mourinho said: “I was coaching Porto and still young when Fenerbahce made me an offer. They were the first foreign club to make me an offer.”

Mourinho held talks with Fenerbahce board members at the Hacidan restaurant in the well-to-do Etiler area of Istanbul.

Fenerbahce appointed German manager Christoph Daum instead but he was fired the following season and replaced by Brazilian legend Zico.

Mourinho joined Chelsea as his first foreign club and enjoyed a successful stint in London before taking charge of Inter and then Real Madrid.

Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira currently coaches Fenerbahce but he could find himself without a job this summer after failing to win the league.

Fenerbahce invested heavily over the summer brining in Robin van Persie and Luis Nani from United but failed to secure the championship.
