Former Trabzonspor manager Halilhodzic linked with Japan national team job

The former Trabzonspor manager Vahid Halilhodzic has been linked with the vacant Japan national team job according to the Japanese sports newspaper Sankei Sports.

The Bosnian manager spoke with with Anadolu Agency (AA) reporters about reports linking him with the role.

“There have been talks between myself and the Japanese FA however, the vacant national team job was not what was talked about,” Halilhodzic told AA.

Japan Football Association (JFA) announced the dismissal of their coach, Mexican Javier Aguirre, after he was accused by a Spanish court over alleged match-fixing in the Spanish league.

Trabzonspor fired the former Algerian national team coach following a slow start to the league and for comments he made about his squad to the media.

Halilhodzic’s second spell at Trabzonspor lasted a total of 116 days. The experienced coach won four, drew eight and lost two of the 14 games he managed.

The Bosnian coach has been replaced by former Turkish national team manager Ersun Yanal.
