The French international was denied his playing license due to having already played for two different teams in competitive games this season.

Ben Arfa played for Hull but Nice thought he would be cleared to play as he only featured fot the Newcastle U21 side.

“Today I’m finished with Nice,” Ben Arfa said.

“But maybe that won’t be for ever. I want to thank everyone here – it’s a real regret that I can’t continue, but sometimes you have to accept it and move on.”

Ben Arfa was closely linked with Galatasaray in the summer.

The Lions would be able to sign the 27-year-old as a free agent but would have to wait until the end of the season to play him.
