German club will pay for fans drinks if Arsenal sell Mesut Ozil

The German fourth division side Rot-Weiss Essen have stated that would buy free drinks for their supporters if they were to receive a windfall from a potential Mesut Ozil transfer.

According to ESPN, Essen club president Michael Welling told fans that he would “buy everyone a round of drinks at the stadium,” should Essen receive a windfall from a sale.

However, the statement upset the operators of their stadium (GVE) who released a counter statement.

The stadium operator’s CEO stated that Michael Welling’s comments had “led to major irritations with me and the shareholders [the city of Essen] considering that you consequently defy an economic recovery of the SBG related to the use of the stadium.”

Arsenal are preparing to offer Mesut Ozil a new contract with  £180,000-a-week according to the Telegraph.

Ozil is currently Arsenal’s highest earner, along with Alexis Sanchez, on £130,000 pre week. The 27-year-old joined the Gunners for a club record €42 million back in September 2013.

The Germany international provided his 17th Premier League assist in the process – the highest figure in the Premier League.
