The Bundesliga giants host the Red’s at the Signal Iduna Park in the Europa League, kick-off is at 20:05.
Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted Gundogan is facing a race against time during a pre-match press conference.
“Gundogan trained with more intensity today,” Tuchel said.
“It’s tight as to whether he’ll play, but it looks better than it did on Saturday.”
Dortmund skipper Mats Hummels and centre back Sokratis Papastathopoulos also returned to training wit after sitting out Saturday’s win over Werder Bremen.
The Bundesliga giants go into the game in great form having won 15 of their 17 games in 2016 – drawing the other two.
Gundogan has been closely linked with Liverpool according to the Daily Star newspaper. The 25-year-old has seven assists and three goals in 36 appearances for Dortmund this season.
