Irfan Buz praises Genclerbirligi president Ilhan Cavcav [divider]
Gençlerbirliği manager İrfan Buz hit back at critics who wrote off the Ankara based club at the start of the season.
“We were written off at the start of the season,” Buz said.
“Apparently we were favourites to go down, we were supposed to be in a relegation scrap, we were supposed to regret given our academy players a chance.
“We called back five players from our satellite club Haceteppe to play for the senior team and have not regretted the decision at all.”
Buz also praised Gençlerbirliği president İlhan Cavcav for his support.
“Gençlerbirliği are unique in Turkey,” Buz said.
“We have an identity, an ethos, a way of doing things, we value young players and work hard trying to develop them.
“President İlhan Cavcav has been instrumental to this, he always supports the staff and players.”
Gençlerbirliği are currently in eight place on 22 points.
