İstanbul Başakşehir secure their spot in the Europa League

İstanbul Başakşehir have secured their place in next seasons Europa League after following their 2-2 draw with Mersin Idmanyurdu in the final week of the Turkish Super Lig.

Abdulla Avci’s side have been the seasons surprise package after surpassing all expectations. The newly promoted side were predicted to be involved in a relegation scrap but have instead finished closer to the top of the league.

Başakşehir finished the season in forth place with 59 points in 34 games. Both Trabzonspor and Bursaspor who were involved in the race for the forth spot ended the term with 57 points.

Başakşehir have the second best defensive record in the league, the Istanbul minnows have only conceded 30 goals all season.

Avcı’s side have only let in 15 goals in on the road – fewer than all but Besiktas in the Süper Lig.
