Jurgen Klopp included star player in Liverpool squad going into League Cup clash

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has included star player Emre Can in his provisional squad going into the League Cup clash against Burton today.

Defender Joel Matip, midfielder Marko Grujic and striker Divock Origi have also been listed in the squad.

Can missed the 2-0 defeat against Burnley due to injury but he has since recovered and could feature today.

“Emre Can was on the bench, he had a back problem, Lucas Leiva is injured and you ask me for a hard midfield player?” Jurgen Klopp told reporters from the Guardian when they asked if he’d buy a defensive midfielder.

The Germany international of Turkish origin is not 100 percent match fit and has yet to start a competitive game this season.

Can enjoyed an extended break following the end of Euro 2016 after reaching the semi-final stage.

The young midfielder is not expected to start with an important trip to White Hart Lane coming up in the Premier League next but could get some playing time as Klopp tries to get his man match fit for the campaign.

Liverpool provisional squad: Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Klavan, Moreno, Grujic, Can, Stewart, Milner, Origi, Firmino, Manninger, Randall, Lovren, Alexander-Arnold, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Ings, Woodburn, Coutinho.
