Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers revealed that he was delighted to with Emre Can‘s performance in the goalless draw against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Can made his first start for the Reds this season after coming off the bench in both previous games.

“Emre Can and Lucas Leiva were coming into key areas of the team, it was their first start of the season and I thought they did really well,” Rodgers said speaking to Sky Sports.

Leiva was recalled to the Liverpool team following injury to team captain Jordan Henderson.

The Brazilian midfielder has been closely linked with a loan move to Süper Lig outfit Beşiktaş over the past week but may be given the chance to fight for his place in the team.

Leiva made more tackles (6) and more interceptions (5) than any other Liverpool teammate over the 90 minutes according to Whoscored.

Can is almost certain to play a major role in Rodgers Liverpool side this season.

The 21-year-old started in his preferred central midfield role after spending most of last season in defence.
