Liverpool defender Kolo Toure believes his side had chances to beat Beşiktaş in the Europa League Round of 32 second-leg at the Atatürk Olmypic.
“A win would have been really, really good, but that’s football,” Toure told the official UEFA website.
“We could have won, but we didn’t.”
The Reds went into the return leg with a 1-0 advantage having won the first game 1-0 at Anfield.
Liverpool needed just a draw to progress and had the Reds scored Beşiktaş would have needed three goals to make it to the next stage.
Beşiktaş scored the only goal in regulation time at the Atatürk Olmypic. Tolgay Arslan hit the back of the net with a stunning strike on 71 minutes to take the game into extra time.
The score remained tied 1-1 on aggregate in extra-time to take the tie into penalties. After nine successful spot kicks, Dejan Lovren stepped up and blazed the ball over the goal.
Beşiktaş will now face Belgium side Club Brugge in the Europa League Last 16.
