Liverpool star Emre Can and young striker Samed Yeşil both featured in the Reds 2-0 defeat against Porto yesterday. The former Bayer Leverkusen duo both played in the first half of the encounter with the Portuguese giants.
Can who is expected to play in his favoured midfield position this season will be up against fierce competition for a place in the starting line-up.
James Milner and Jordan Henderson are currently leading the race for first team places leavening one space in midfield leaving one spot for either Emre Can or Philippe Coutinho depending on how Rodgers sets out his formation.
Liverpool U21 manager Michael Beale was full of praise for Can following the game despite losing.
Beale told Liverpoolfc.com: “It was fantastic to have Philippe and Emre with us and they did really well in the planned 45 minute outing.”
