Liverpool join race with Man City to reunite Jurgen Klopp with former star

Liverpool are interested in Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan according to The Sunday Times reporter Jonathan Northcroft.

Klopp is reported to be keen on reshaping his squad over the summer and is no stranger to Gundogan having managed him during his time at Dortmund.

In fact Gundogan first made a name for himself playing under the stewardship of the current Liverpool boss.

Gundogan would become the third player of Turkish heritage born in Germany at the club if the transfer were to go ahead with Emre Can and Samed Yesil being the other two.

The 24-year-old would join Can in central midfield if he were to make the move being deployed with a similar box-to-box role.

Gundogan’s current contract with Dortmund expires in June next year but he is reported to have refused to sign a new deal.

The Reds could however, face competition from Manchester City and Arsenal who are also locked in a race to sign Gundogan according to the Daily Mail.
