Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has told the The Daily Mail that Arsenal star Mesut Özil needs to raise his game this season.

The former England international went onto state that Özil has failed to recapture his form of 2010 during his spell in North London.

“His form improved towards the end of last season but I still think back to the player who was outstanding at the World Cup in 2010 and I am looking for him to repeat that form,” Carragher told the Daily Mail.

The Germany international joined Arsenal from Real Madrid back in 2013 for a club record £42.5 million.

Özil provided nine assists and five goals in 32 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions last season. The 26-year-old played a staring role during Arsenal’s pre-season and has been tipped as a candidate for player of the year by manager Arsene Wenger.

The World Cup winner has been in good form since the turn of the year winning two Vitality Arsenal Player of the Month and a PFA Fans Player of the Month award.

The Gunners kick-off their league campaign with a London derby against West Ham in their opening game of the 2015-16 season this weekend.
