Liverpool legend John Aldridge praises Emre Can for his performances and versatility in recent games.
“We’re seeing the reasons why Markovic was signed, and the same could be applied to Emre Can as well,” Aldridge was quoted as saying on the official Liverpool website.
“I thought the German was another star performer at the weekend, despite being forced to play in a couple of different positions out of necessity.
“The potential of these two – and throw Alberto Moreno in there as well – is huge, and should not be ignored.”
Can has played as a defender since first being deployed in the Liverpool back-three in the second half half against Burnley on Boxing Day and has played the last seven games in defence.
The 21-year-old is a central midfielder but has experience playing in defensive roles.
Can was used as a full-back at Bayer Leverkusen from time to time despite being primarily used as a central midfielder.
The former Bayer midfielder has made 18 appearances for the Reds in all competitions this season.
Can was born in Germany but can represent either his country of birth of Turkey at international level due to being of Turkish heritage.
