Former Liverpool defender and football pundit Jamie Carragher has praised the versatility Emre Can has shown since joining the Reds.
Can joined Liverpool on a £9.75 million move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer as a central midfielder but has played most of the season at his new club as a defender in Brendan Rogers back-three.
Carragher revealed that he has been impressed with Can in defence but also believes that playing in the back-three gives the 21-year-old a chance to showcase his talent as a midfielder.
“It gives him time to step into midfield – even though we’re saying he’s playing at the back, he’s actually playing in midfield as well because he can step in and add that extra man,” Carragher told the official Liverpool website.
Can has started as a defender in the Reds last 10 Premier League games and has featured in the back-three in the last 11 league matches.
Liverpool have not lost any of their last 11 league games in which Can has played in defence.
Can has one goal and one assist in 29 appearances in all competitions this season for Liverpool.
