Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has criticised Emre Can for his performance against Chelsea in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi final.

Can gave away a penalty in the 17th minute of the game after fouling Eden Hazard in the box. The former Liverpool defender stated that Can was at fault for letting Cesc Fabregas run past him and committing a poorly timed challenge on Hazard.

“The reason they [Liverpool] lost the goal was because of his [Emre Can’s] defending,” Nicol stated on the ESPN FC Tv show.

“He made two mistakes on the goal, initially letting Fabregas get pass him and when he made up the ground, he fouled Hazard and gave the penalty away.”
