Liverpool midfielder joining Galatasaray would ‘not be surprise’ says sporting director

Lucas Leiva

Galatasaray sporting direcotr Leven Nazifoglu has revealed that it would not be a surprise if Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva were to join the club over the summer transfer window.

Nazifoglu was a guest on Turkish sports radio station Radyospor when he confirmed that LucasĀ is close to signing for the Istanbul giants.

“If Lucas Leiva puts pen to paper on a deal for Galatasaray it would not be a surprise to be honest,” Nazifoglu said.

Galatasaray have been locked in talks with Liverpool over the transfer of the 29-year-old midfielder and are reported to be nearing a deal.

Lucas was also closely linked with a move to Besiktas last season but the deal fell through after former manager Brendan Rodgers vetoed the move.

The experienced midfielder is currently the longest serving player in the Liverpool squad having joined from Brazilian giants Gremio nine years ago.

Lucas is however, out injured for a month with a hamstring strain and is not expected to return in time for the start of the season.
