Liverpool have received a boost in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan after Juventus cooled interest in the Germany international according to Sport Mediaset (via Mirror).

The report states that Juventus director Beppe Marotta told Sport Mediaset they will not be making any major additions to their squad during the winter transfer window.

The Germany international has been linked with a move to Liverpool since the appointment of Jugen Klopp.

Gündoğan has hinted at a move to Liverpool during a recent interview with the German tabloid newspaper Bild. “They have a good team, a great coach,” Gündoğan stated.

However, Dortmund Manager Thomas Tuchel stated that he is not fond of January transfer window and is not looking to offload or sign any players.

“I’m not a fan of winter transfers. The team shows every day how hard they work and what achievements they are capable of,” Tuchel was quoted as saying by 90min.

Gündoğan played the full 90 minutes during Borussia Dortmund’s disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of FC Koln in the Bundesliga. Dortmund sit in second place in the league with 38 points in 17 games.
