Turkish giants Galatasaray are closing in on a deal for Liverpool veteran Lucas Leiva in a transfer that would end his nine-year spell at the club.
A source close to the Lions told Turkish-football.com that Galatasaray have reached an agreement with Liverpool over a €2.5 million transfer fee. Talks with Lucas are at an advanced stage and just a few details remain to be sorted before the move can be completed.
The Istanbul based outfit are pushing for a three-year deal that will see Lucas earn €2.7 million next season.
Galatasaray have given football agent Ahmet Bulut a mandate to hold negotiations between the club and player on behalf of the club. Bulut represents Arda Turan and has close ties with the Gestifute player management company headed by Jorge Mendss.
Lions manager Jan Olde Riekerink stated that he wants Lucas at the club next season in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Manchester United clash in Sweden on Saturday.
Riekerink said: “Lucas is one of the players we are targeting. We have been in discussions and it is true we want an experienced midfielder.”
Lucas would become the second Liverpool player to join the Super Lig this summer after Martin Skrtel who was snapped up by Fenerbahce.
