Liverpool star Emre Can must ‘get forward more’ says Ruud Gullit

Liverpool news: Emre Can Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool beat Swansea 1-0 at Anfield to close the gap with league leaders Leicester City to just six points but Sky Sports football pundit Ruud Gullit had a bone to pick with Emre Can.

Gullit stated that Can was lazy against Swansea and that his positioning was poor which prevented the Reds being able to dominate the midfield.

“Emre Can should play more forward and let the two centre-backs do the job, he takes the easy position and that results in Liverpool having no width and not enough people in midfield,” Gullit said speaking after the game on Sky Sports.

Can has been starting in his preferred central midfield role since Jurgen Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers last month but Gullit was not impressed with the positions he took in the centre of the park.

The Reds only took two shots on target over the course of the 90 minutes but did manage to win all three points thanks to James Milner converting his penalty.

The Germany international of Turkish origin joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014 but played most of his first season at the club as a defender.
