Liverpool star Emre Can welcomes competition for places

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has stated that he welcomes competition for places as he believes it improves the strength of the team.

The Reds currently have Jordan Henderson, Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen, James Milner and Jordan Rossiter also fighting for a starting place in midfield with Can.

“I think every player aims to get in the starting XI so I work hard in training and I always try to show what I can do and impress the manager so he picks me,” Can told Liverpool FC.

“At the end of the day I think the competition for places is good for the team.”

Can started his second consecutive game for the Germany national team – against Scotland at right-back yesterday. The former Bayer Leverkusen man has however spent this season in his favoured midfield position for Liverpool.

The 21-year-old joined the Reds on a £9.75 million transfer from Bayer Leverkusen last summer

Can has featured in all four Liverpool Premier League games this season and is expected to play against Manchester United next at Old Trafford after the international break.
