The 21-year-old spent the majority of the year playing as part of a three-back and at right back despite being signed as a midfielder from Bayer Leverksuen.
Can came on as a substitute in midfield against both Stoke City and Bournemouth this season.
The former Bayern Munich man put on an impressive display playing in midfield for the Germany U-21 side in the 2015 U-21 European Championships.
Can has recently stated that he would prefer to play in Liverpool’s midfield this season.
“The most important thing is to feature in games for Liverpool – that’s my number one intention,” Emre Can told Liverpool’s official website.
“A midfield role is preferable, but of course it is the manager who decides who plays where. We’ll see where he chooses to play me this season.”
The young midfielder made a total of 27 appearances for the Premier League outfit last season and also featured in the FA Cup and Europa League.
