Liverpool target Ilkay Gundogan disappoints in Dortmund defeat

Ilkay Gundogan played the full 90 minutes during Borussia Dortmund’s disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of FC Koln in the Bundesliga.

The 25-year-old played in central midfield alongside Weigl and received a rating of 6.5 from WhoScored.

Gundogan made four tackles, one interception and two clearances. However, the deep-lying playmaker was unable to contribute in attack and failed to make a single key pass.

Gündoğan has been linked with a move to Liverpool since the appointment of Jugen Klopp.

The 25-year-old has hinted at a move to Liverpool during a recent interview with the German tabloid newspaper Bild. “They have a good team, a great coach,” Gündoğan stated.

However, Dortmund are unwilling to let the Germany international leave during the January transfer window. Dortmund Manager Thomas Tuchel stated that he is not fond of January transfer window and is not looking to offload or sign any players.

“I’m not a fan of winter transfers. The team shows every day how hard they work and what achievements they are capable of,” Tuchel was quoted as saying by 90min.

“I’m not naive, I know some players are less satisfied with their role, so I can’t rule anything out. I wouldn’t mind if we started the second half with completely the same selection.”

Dortmund sit in second place in the Bundesliga with 38 points in 17 games.
