Liverpool target Thomas Vermaelen cleared to play in the final two Barcelona games

The Besiktas and Liverpool target Thomas Vermaelen has returned to first team training following a lengthly injury lay-off.

Vermaelen has been sidelined since April 11 with a calf injury but  has been cleared to play in the final two games of the season.

The Belgium international’ s return to fitness will excite his potential suitors who aim to sign him over the summer.

Besiktas have already held early talks with the Barcelona over the transfer of Vermaelen according to the Fanatik newspaper. The Istanbul giants are looking to sign the former Arsenal man on a season long loan.

However, Liverpool are looking to fend off competition from Besiktas and Juventus with an early bid for the 30-year-old.

Besiktas at the top of the Premier League and are currently six points ahead of their Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce.
