Liverpool transfer report: Jurgen Klopp eyes Barcelona's Arda Turan as Coutinho replacement

Last week the Spanish outlet Don Balon reported that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had set his sights on a move for Barcelona’s Turkish international midfielder Arda Turan.

Per-the-source, the German tactician has identified Turan as a key target to strengthen his squad when the transfer window re-opens in January 2017.

The report goes onto state that Klopp is eyeing a move for Turan in response to Barcelona’s ambitions to sign Philippe Coutinho.

Meanwhile, the Barcelona based football news outlet Sport have reported that Coutinho is a target for Barcelona.

Verdict:

While Turan has been a linked with Liverpool over the past two seasons, the notion that the Reds will be able to sign him over the January transfer window is unlikely. With Barcelona lacking cover in key area’s, Turan offers versatility which they cannot afford to lose mid-way though a season.

Turan has also failed to live up to expectations in recent months and would certainly be a step down from Coutinho, if the Brazilian international goes in the opposite direction.
