Liverpool’s Emre Can has stated that his goal is to play in midfield positions in the future.

The former Bayern Munich player has spent the majority of his playing time on the right side of a three man defence at Liverpool this season.

Can was signed as a midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer but the Red’s boss Brendan Rodgers has opted to play him in defence.

The 21-year-old has been highly praised for his performances in defence with the Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher calling for the striker to be kept in defence permanently.

“It was fine for me (playing at the back). The most important thing for me was getting game time and I’m happy about breaking into the team,” Can told the Liverpool Echo.

“In the long term it’s definitely my goal to play in the midfield positions.”
