Man City star ruled out Champions League clash but could be back for Man Utd derby

Manchester City summer signing Ilkay Gundogan has not been included in the provisional squad going into the Champions League qualifier second-leg tie against Steaua Bucharest due to injury.

Provisional squad: Caballero, Hart, Gunn, Zabaleta, Kolarov, Clichy, Stones, Denayer, Otamendi, Adarabioyo, Fernando, Fernandinho, Sterling, Navas, De Bruyne, Delph, Silva, Toure, Nolito, Aguero, Iheanacho.

Gundogan has however, returned to training and could be ready in time for the Manchester derby against Man Utd.

The Germany international of Turkish origin has stated that he is aiming to be fit in time for the first game against City’s bitter rivals this season.

“I’m really looking forward to training normally with the guys and I can’t wait to get going properly – but I just have to be patient for a little while longer,” the former Dortmund man was quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.

“Maybe just after the World Cup qualifiers and perhaps the Manchester derby – that would be very nice.”

City take on Steaua today and are almost certain to qualify after beating the Romanian side 5-0 in the first leg.

Gundogan has recovered from his knee injury but it will take a few weeks for him to get back to match fitness.

The 25-year-old dislocated his knee during training while at Dortmund before his move the City.
