Man Utd boss Van Gaal sets sights on Besiktas striker Mario Gomez

Manchester United are set to make a January bid for the German international striker Mario Gomez according to LigTV.

The Turkish Super Lig broadcaster states that United – who have been monitoring the 30-year-old striker over the past month – want to bolster their attacking options in the upcoming transfer window.

LigTV also state that Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal is keen to reunite with the striker he managed at Bayern Munich.

Van Gaal heaped praise on the experienced striker during a recent press conference.

“I was manager of Bayern, and there the striker was Mario Gomez, and he touched the ball nine times as an average in a game,” Van Gaal was quoted as saying by the Guardian.

Gomez has hit the ground running at Beşiktaş scoring nine times already this season and has attracted interest from Manchester United according to the Telegraph.

The 30-year-old was recalled to the Germany national team recently after impressing for Beşiktaş this season. The Black Eagles are currently first in the Turkish Super League two points clear of Fenerbahçe.
