Man Utd join race for £29m Arsenal target the ‘new Mesut Ozil’

Manchester United have joined the race for Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Çalhanoğlu according to the the Daily Star.

The Bundesliga outfit want £29 million for the Turkish international but United could face competition from Arsenal for the playmaker dubbed the new Mesut Ozil.

Bayer CEO Michael Schade told German paper SportBild: “We want to keep Hakan, but with us there is a pain threshold.”

The German giants rejected all previous bids for the Turkish international over the summer transfer window but he continues to attract interest following an impressive start to the season.

Çalhanoğlu has also been closely monitored by Barcelona who are in the market for a new midfielder following injuries to Rafinha, Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta last month.

At the age of 21 Çalhanoğlu has already scored 18 goals and provided 14 assists for Bayer and has established himself as a first-team regular in the Turkish national side.

The Bayer star has six goals and provided two assists in all competitions this season and also has a phenomenal free-kick scoring record – 22 in the Bundesliga alone.
