Man Utd & Liverpool target Gundogan will not base decision to move on Champions League football

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan has stated that a decision regarding his future wont be based on which position his current side finish the season in.

“I believe everybody here at Dortmund wants to be back in the Champions League next season and anything else would be a major disappointment,” Gündoğan told Sport Bild.

“But that does not mean that I will definitely leave if we don’t qualify. I’m not that kind of person. I would already have left last summer had that been one of the criteria for me.”

Gündoğan has been linked with a move to Liverpool since the appointment of his former manager Jurgen Klopp in place of Brendan Rodgers.

The Bundesliga side rejected an approach from Manchester United earlier on in the season according to the German newspaper Express.

Dortmund sit in second place in the Bundesliga with 35 points in 15 games.

Gündoğan has provided five assists and scored two goals in 25 appearances for Dortmund this season.
