Man Utd received higher price for Van Persie because of Besiktas claims club president

Beşiktaş president Fikret Orman confirmed that an offer was made for Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie.

Fenerbahçe ended up beating Beşiktaş for the signature of the United star but Orman claims that the Red Devils got a higher price as a result.

“It is likely they had to pay an increased fee because of our talks with over Robin van Persie. I am guessing the deal with be around the €25 million mark in total maybe even more,” Orman told TRT.

Beşiktaş were reported to have made another late move for Van Persie but the 31-year-old decided to join the Yellow Canaries instead.

Van Persie arrived in Istanbul, Turkey yesterday and was greeted by thousands of fans who turned out to welcome the star striker.

The Netherlands international striker arrived at the general terminal at the Sabiha Gökçen airport and will be officially unveiled at the Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium this afternoon.
