Man Utd target staying at Barcelona says Bartomeu

Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan will be staying at the club according to club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Turan has been linked with a move to the Premier League over the summer despite joining on a five-year deal from Atletico Madrid last season.

Manchester United and Arsenal were both interested in the bearded winger according to the Daily Star last month.

Bartomeu not only confirmed Turan would be staying but also underlined that he thought the Turkish international has settled in well and that he had an impressive start.

The club president said: “The coaching staff count on Arda Turan and we thank both him and Aleix [Vidal] for the patience they showed to go six months without being able to play. As for the sporting section, I’d give them a nine out of 10 because four trophies in one season isn’t bad at all”.

Turan did of course miss the first six-months of the season due to the FIFA transfer ban imposed on the club so some of the criticism directed towards him has not exactly been fair.

There were reports that Barcelona had transfer listed Turan but the board and manager Luis Enrique have continuously backed him.

The bearded winger did not have a particularly impressive Euro 2016 campaign and was even booed by his fans at one stage.
