Manchester City star confirms he will miss start of season

Ilkay Gundogan

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has confirmed that he will miss the beginning of the Premier League season.

The 25-year-old joined city from Borussia Dortmund for £20 million last month. However, Gundogan dislocated his knee while at Dortmund and been ruled out until August.

“You can’t be absolutely sure and we gauge it week-by-week but that’s my target and if everything goes to plan it will be August,” Gundogan told the Sun.

“I may miss a couple of matches but that’s fine because I want to be ready for when I play my first game.”

The 25-year-old arrived in Manchester on crutches and understood to still be some way off making a full recovery. The former Dortmund man was recently spotted house-hunting with his parents in Manchester.

Gundogan provided seven assists and scored three goals in 40 appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season. The midfield playmaker missed out on Euro 2016 due to his knee injury, Germany are currently in the quarter finals and take on Italy this week.
