Manchester United and Arsenal target Gündoğan close to penning contract extension

The German international midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan is close to putting pen to paper on a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund.

The German newspaper Kicker has reported that talks between Gündoğan and Dortmund have progressed positively and there’s every indication he will pen new terms “in the coming weeks”.

The report in Kicker went onto say that new deal will see Gündoğan’s current €4.5 million salary doubled.

The 24-year-old’s contract runs out in July 2016 and Dortmund will be keen to cash in if Gündoğan does not sign a new deal.

According to a report in the German Sports paper Bild, Atletico Madrid have opened negotiations with their top transfer target, Gündoğan.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal have expressed an interest in signing Gündoğan this season.

Gündoğan has four assists and two goals in 22 appearances for Dortmund this season.
