Man Utd 'set to announce' €30m signing of Gundogan this weekend

Manchester United look set to beat Barcelona in the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gündoğan.

The newspaper Metro stated that, ‘United are reportedly set to announce the £20million (€30 million) transfer of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gündoğan this weekend.’

According to Todomercadoweb, the transfer will be confirmed following Dortmund’s clash with VLF Wolsburg in the German Cup final. The DFB Pokal final will be played on Saturday, May 30.

However, the Red Devils are in a close battle with Barcelona for the 24-year-old’s signature. Barcelona based newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed that the Germany international passed a medical for the Catalan giants.

Dortmund CEO Hans Joachim Watzke has confirmed that Gündoğan will leave the club at the end of the season.

“Gündoğan will be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer, that is a fact. I am very confident we will see various clubs coming in for him,” Watzke told SportBild.

“It has not been our intention to see him leaving. It was his ambition to move clubs. Therefore we agreed. We will sell him.”

Gündoğan has five assists and three goals in 32 appearances for Dortmund despite spending much of the season out injured and is almost certain to leave the Bundesliga giants over the summer.
