Mario Gomez set to start for Germany alongside Arsenal star Mesut Ozil

Besiktas star Mario Gomez is expected to start for Germany against Italy according to head coach Joachim Low.

“He’s improved a lot. You can see it in every training session. You can see that he’s gathered more confidence. He has taken a step forward in Turkey,” Low said in his post-match press conference.

“He will start tomorrow. He’s earned it from his performances in training.”

Gomez has been in great form for Besiktas scoring 21 goals in all competitions this season – the highest in the league.

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is also likely to start in the friendly against Italy after the manager gave him the all clear following an injury scare.
