Mesut Ozil backs £30m Arsenal signing to be difference maker this season

Mesut Ozil has stated that he is expecting Granit Xhaka to make an impact at Arsenal this season.

The 27-year-old playmaker stated that he has followed the Switzerland international closely and knows him well. Ozil went onto say that Xhaka is both comfortable on the ball and will add some needed steal to Arsenal’s midfield.

“I knew Granit from the Bundesliga, which I regularly follow. He brings enormous quality and even more potential,” Ozil was quoted as saying by ESPN.

“He is a strong tackler and has a superb ball control. Everyone is enthusiastic about him.”

Xhaka made the move to Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach earlier this summer for a fee in the region of £30 million according to SkySports.

The Switzerland international joined Monchengladbach from FC Basel back in 2012.  Xhaka previously spent 10 years at Basel and won two Swiss league titles. The 23-year-old made over 100 Bundesliga appearances for Monchengladbach and scored six goals.

Xhaka is set to make his debut when Arsenal host Liverpool at the Emirates on Sunday, kick-off is at 16:00 (GMT).
