Mest Özil has been in fantastic form for Arsenal this season and was directly involved in yet another goal today in the Gunners 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Emirates today.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger did however, make a startling revelation today – that the World Cup winner has hardly been training.

“Mesut, I gave him a one-week holiday during the international break,” Wenger was quoted as saying in the Independent.

“At the moment he doesn’t practise a lot, we rest him a lot between the games.

“He is a guy who once the basic fitness is there between the games, he wants to play.”

Wenger simply put it down to some players not having to train as hard as others.

“There are types of players, sometimes the most technical players, it looks like it demands less energy for them to play – it is just natural for them,” he added.

The World Cup winner has been accused of having a languid style at times but not make Arsenal fans will be complaining considering he has provided 16 assists in 18 league games – the highest in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has also been awarded two Player of the Month awards for October, November and is currently favourite to win the December addition as well.

Arsenal moved two points clear of Leicester City at the top of the table following the 1-0 win over Newcastle United today.
