Mesut Ozil jokes that ‘assist’ was the first English word he learned after joining Arsenal

Arsenal star Mesut Özil has established himself as some what of an assist king this season setting up 16 goals in 19 leagues games so it will probably come as no surprise that the first word he learned in English was ‘assist’.

Özil took part in a Twitter Q&A session yesterday answering questions from his 10.3 million followers.

The World Cup winner was of course joking but considering he has the highest assist record in Europe’s top five leagues this season – England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain – it would not really seem far fetched.

The 27-year-old was not able to provide an assist in the 4-1 draw against Sunderland in the FA Cup today due to being rested however, he did watch the game from the stands.

The Gunners booked a place in the FA Cup fourth-round following their 14th consecutive victory in the competition.

Sunderland opened the scoring but goals from Joel Campbell, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud ensured a Gunners victory.
