Former Arsenal player and football pundit Gilberto Silva believes that Mesut Özil needs more time to settle and adapt to Premier League football.
“Coming from Spain it is tough to adapt, it doesn’t always happen straight away,” Silva was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
Silva also underlined that Özil needs to ensure that he immerse himself in the club and adapt to the teams philosophy.
“I think the most important thing is that the player understands the philosophy of the team, the philosophy of the manager and the expectation from the fans,” he added.
Özil has been criticised by sections of the press and fans for his performances this season however, the 26-year-old did spend three months out injured.
The World Cup winner also has two goals and five assists in his last five games. In fact Özil has the most assists in the league in 2015.
Silva spent six seasons at Arsenal, winning the Premier League, two FA Cups and he played in the 2005-06 Champions League final.
Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League and take on West Brom at the Emirates next.
