Arsenal star Mesut Özil neglected his defensive duties against Monaco in the Champions League Last 16 first-leg according to Martin Keown.
The Gunners suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat at the Emirates against the Ligue 1 outfit.
Former Arsenal defender and football pundit Keown underlined that Özil and Santi Cazorla did not work hard enough defensively.
“On the break Arsenal were picked off,” Keown told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Tonight, Özil and Cazorla were too interested in getting forward – they needed a Vieira or Petit.
“But boy, weren’t Arsenal dismantled by a very impressive Monaco team.”
Özil started against Monaco but had a disappointing game, only Olivier Giroud received a lower rating for Arsenal outfield players according to Whoscored.
Arsenal will need to score three goals in France if they are to stand any chance of making it to the next stage of the Champions League.
The Gunners have not progressed to the quarter-finals in the Champions League for five years.
The North London based club take on Everton at the Emirates next on Sunday.
