Mesut Özil has taken to social media to praise his Arsenal teammates following their 2-1 victory over north London rivals Tottenham.

The unlikely goal scorer Mathieu Flamini found the back of the net twice during last night’s victory while Tottenham’s only goal came from Callum Chambers’ own goal.

Özil took to twitter after the game and posted the following tweet, “Derby champions! Good work, Gunners And congratulations to my double-score-bro Mathieu #YaGunnersYa #Flamini #CarlingCup #THFCvAFC.”

The Gunners won the north London derby without Özil playing a single minute. The World Cup winner was left on the bench and fellow stars Santi Cazorla and Alexis Sanchez did not start either.

Arsenal went into the game having suffered defeats at the hands of both Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League and against reigning Premier League champions Chelsea in the Premier League.

Özil was rested for the cup game against Tottenham but is expected to return to the starting line-up against Leicester City on Saturday 26 September at the King Power stadium.
